After 3 years of running races, I have yet to volunteer at one. That is about to change.
Exactly 1 week to the day after I run the Chicago Marathon, I will be volunteering at the Detroit Marathon. Not only that, but my job is the coolest. I get to stand at the finish line handing out finishers medals! I am really excited to do this. Not only will I be seeing the winner cross the finish line, but I get to congratulate all those that put in the hard work, dedication and training it takes to run 26.2 miles. I have a feeling it will be a very emotional experience.

I love volunteering. I must do it again soon!
ReplyDeleteBeen a while since I have read your blog and just read this post. Volunteering is the best part of being involved in the running community! My husband and I do it all the time. If you can, volunteer for an trail ultra race and see what volunteering really means to the runners. It will give you a whole new perspective on running and the community. I just wrote a post volunteer report for Burning River 100 mile endurance race. Have fun handing out medals! That sounds like an awesome job! Be sure to right up a post volunteer race report because you WILL some pretty amazing moments at the finish line.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome!! I agree it will probably be emotional
