Rest Day!

Ah, just what I need.

Unfortunately, I am not relaxing on the beaches of Aruba with a beer as pictured above. But I am taking the day off from running and working out. My legs are thinking me. Yesterday was rough. My muscles were tight and my legs were screaming at me all day. Then I look at my training and ask myself why? It's not even close to being that intense! Some of my favorite bloggers run a whole hell of a lot more than I do and I dream of reaching their levels. How can I if I am this sore after 8 days of running?

Then it hits me. Do I foam roll? Nope. Don't even own one. Do I stretch like I should? Not at all. I do a few measly stretches after a run and call it a day.

If I intend on running longer and faster, I need to make sure I take care of my muscles. I will be purchasing a foam roller this weekend and starting tomorrow after my long run, I will make sure I stretch. a lot.

Resting and my Garmin

I took yesterday off from running. I was utterly and completely exhausted and was asleep by 9:30pm. I had full intentions of going to the gym tonight to bust out 10 x 400's on the treadmill w/ 60 second breaks in between. But instead, here I sit, taking another rest day. I, again, am tired. It's definitely caused by sitting out out the ballpark all day long in the cold and rain with a bunch of 6th graders. But it was worth it!

Two rest days in a row is very out of the ordinary for me. Especially with two races in the very near future; a 5K Friday and a half marathon on June 6th. I'll make up for it tomorrow though. My dad and I are heading out to the Poto trail (where I ran the trail half) to bust out 10.5 miles.

My Garmin arrived yesterday. I should have charged it but didn't. I have it charging now and hope to learn a few basics so I can take it with me tomorrow. I only need to know my pace and distance and can worry about all the other "bells & whistles" later in the week.

Pointless blog post, but I needed to reassure myself resting is good for me. I start to feel guilty when I take rest days.

Week 6 Day 5- Rest Day!!

Today is a rest day and I am using it! Chris and I are going to head to the driving range this evening. He is golfing in a scramble tomorrow so he wants to hit a bucket. And I want to join him. :-) That will be somewhat of a work out I suppose.

I ran 3.5 miles last night at the track. I also lifted for chest and lower body.

I am running 12 miles tomorrow and really looking forward to it! It will be the longest distance run I have made since I ran my half marathon in April.

Day 5 Week 4

Rest day. And that is what I intend to do! The closest thing to exercise will be walking around the mall shopping with Chris.

Tomorrow is long run day. Hal says 9 miles, but I mapped out 10. 10.01 to be exact!
