Looking for advice on re-vamping the blog

I really would like to start taking my blog a little more seriously.  Let's be honest here, this blog sucks.  It's boring, I rarely post and doesn't have many followers.  I am also not too fond of the blogger layouts.  So here are my questions to you.

I was thinking of switching over to word press.  pros?  cons?
If not word press, which host?
Which blog host is easiest to post from an iPhone if/when needed?
Should I transfer this blogs content or start fresh?
New name?  Keep the same name?

I want to start posting more on products I love, my work outs, my current training plans, how I am approaching race season, etc...  Basically re-vamp and become more of a blog people enjoy to read.

Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated.

  1. I struggle with this very question regularly, I hear great things about wordpress, but the transfer is bothersome and sometimes it doesn't go so easy from what I hear. :-/ Will be interested to see what others respond with.

  2. I chose not to switch for a couple reasons. I think it's a pain to do, I would lose followers(I think) and I'm cheap. Blogger only costs me $10 a year and you can't beat that. I think there are ways to make blogger more your own. You can customize it more, you just need to learn more about it. Search the Internet for ideas. I think Wordpress is great and if I were to hire a professional web designer, I would probably move to it. I like your posts and would enjoy hearing more. I tend to post almost daily and some days are better than others.

    1. Only $10 for the year? I love your blog!! Maybe that is what I need to do to make it more appealing.

  3. I like your blog! If move, please try to keep the old content. I snoop around in your past weekly training logs to gauge how I'm doing. Totally selfish, I know. More posts are always better, but I know how hard it is. I've got lots of beginnings, thoughts, ideas, even fully written posts in my computer, but I can never find the time or motivation to get an actual blog up. Maybe one of these days...Anyhow, I really like reading your take on training and races, and I think I can learn a lot from you.

  4. I love your blog and get a little excited when I see a post update! I don't think switching is going to get you any more followers. I think posting consistently, posting pictures, and asking questions of your readers to start a convo in a post is the best bet!

  6. I love WordPress and use it for my running & family blogs. I have custom names for both www.Josh-Kati.com and www.running-with-needles.com

With the WordPress app it's really easy to post from your phone as well.

And even though I don't comment, I love your blog!

  7. Check etsy for some cheap blog overhauls. I really think, though, that looks are not the primary thing you should focus on. Having a set focus for your content will also draw readers. You could just talk about when you weren't a runner (since you came to the sport later in life), struggles you had/have, how to run with the responsibility of kids, what a long distance runner's menu looks like, etc. Good luck!
